Reed and Nash built a plank tower yesterday in the kitchen, then said they want it to stay there. Forever. I fear the moment it gets hit by the refrigerator door or knocked by a bag! And I sure hope it's not me that hits it!

Nash and Reed are the newly appointed "god-daddies" of our neighor's year-old cute-as-can-be dog, Bel. Mary gave them an all-access pass, which means they can walk, play and have fun with Bel to their heart's content. Works for us - all the fun of a dog without the food and vet bills! 
The boys also got to take care of a friend's kittens this past weekend.

Nash and Reed had fun at "Raptor Round-Up" on Sauvie Island today, following in their Papa's birding footsteps. We saw amazing hawks, eagles and other raptors, as well as hundreds of sandhill cranes, snow geese and ducks... and the warm, sunny spring-like weather didn't hurt!

It's that time of year again.... pumpkin patch season! Nash and Reed love visiting pumpkin farms, especially the ones on beautiful Sauvie Island, and since the weather was so nice this weekend we decided to hit two of them!  Our friends Will and Heather joined us Friday and Loren and Jennifer came with us on Sunday. The boys got nice and muddy searching for the perfect pumpkins, running through the corn maze, riding the cown train and bumping along on the hay ride. We will have plenty of jack-o-lanterns decorating our front steps this year!

Our spring trip to Japan was such a fun family adventure. The kids got to experience a completely new culture and try lots of new foods, and we all had a great time exploring a new city. Nash and Reed still talk about it often, even how much they enjoyed the 10 hour plane ride to get there! We might have a couple future world travelers on our hands.

We had the chance to visit Tokyo because Uncle Steve and Aunt Jenny are posted there with the foreign service. It was great to be able to spend time with them and do some fun things, like see a Tokyo Swallows baseball game, check out the famous fish market (closed that day but still cool!), and visit Kiddyland, a wonderful, ridiculously huge kid store, where Reed and Nash got their favorite stuffed toys.

It's always fun to see posters and signs in other countries. The boys had a good time deciphering what some of the images and messages were on various signs around Tokyo. There were definitely quite a few telling us what not to do... but usually in a very nice, polite way. Reed loved the subway poster of the running dog, but I'm not sure Greenpeace would be too keen on the cheery, colorful sign advertising whale meat at the fish market.

One of the most amazing things about Tokyo is just how many people live there! Most of the streets and places we went were jam-packed, day and night.  At first we wondered how we'd even keep track of Nash and Reed, but their red hair definitely helped them stand out from the crowd!  It was a fun experience and even with so many people it never felt too chaotic. It's a great city for people-watching!

We all loved the food in Tokyo. The boys can't ever get enough dumplings, and I think they can eat their body weight in sushi. The octopus balls weren't as big a hit with them, but that just meant more for us adults! The ticket machine at the ramen place was a fun way to place orders, even if it meant we had NO idea what we were ordering!
